Definitions from 9/3:

Sea- a body of salt water smaller than an ocean.
Gulf-
part of a sea or an ocean that cuts into a mass of land.
Bay-
similar to a gulf, but usually is smaller and has a wide opening to the sea.
Lake-
a body of fresh water surrounded by land.


Definitions from 9/4:

Source- where a river begins.
Mouth-
where a river empties into larger bodies of water, like an ocean or lake.
Tributaries-
a smaller stream that feeds into a river.
Mountain Range-
a row of connected mountains.


Definitions from 9/5:

Plains- land areas that are mostly flat with a few trees.
Peninsula-
a piece of land surrounded by water on 3 sides.
Cape-
a piece of land surrounded by water on 3 sides, but smaller and thinner than a peninsula.
Island-
a piece of land completely surrounded by water.

Valley - a low area between ranges of mountains or hills
Ocean - a large body of salt water that covers 3/4th of the earth's surface

Acts - laws created or passed by a government
Protest- to complain about something that is wrong or unfair (publicy)
Debts- money that is owed to someone else
Taxation Without Representation- colonists did not have any representatives in the British Parliament (government) which they thought was unfair

Patriot - people in the American colonies who wanted to break away from Britain
Loyalist - people in the American colonies who wanted to remain under the control of the king and Britain
Neutralists - American colonists who did not support either side
Traitors - a person guilty of acting against his or her own country

Ambition - fame, power, or social standing
Stubborn - hard to convince, persuade or move

Spectacles - glass (glasses)
Repeal - cancel
Bonnet - a child or women's hat tied under the chin with a ribbon or string

Politics - relating to government or policies
Independence - freedom from being ruled by someone else
Declaration - a statement that declares or announces an idea
Sons of Liberty - an organized group of Patriots who encouraged the colonists to disobey laws like the Stamp Act.
