English

Welcome to Mrs. Scola's English page!

This year in English we will explore several historical time periods (including The Great Depression, World War II, and The Jazz Age) and themes (relationships, perseverance, and human rights) through novels that we read together. Science fiction, myths, poetry, and dramas that we read and perform will provide inspiration for our own written work. We will have frequent opportunities to deepen our understanding through individual conferences, group discussions, and oral presentations.

My standing homework assignment is for students to read for 30 minutes at least five nights each week. I try to assign little else because independent reading (both in school and at home) is essential to the development of reading proficiency. To receive credit for this reading, students must log their reading and provide evidence of that reading. To provide evidence, students will have frequent opportunities to respond orally and in writing to the literature that is read both in and out of class.

I am looking forward to a wonderful year working with parents and with this year’s great group of students!
