THINGS I LEARNED IN 7TH GRADE

(but I know I’ll forget by the time I get to 8th grade!)

This past year has been packed full of so much fun & exciting math stuff that I know you could never forget any of it over the summer.  But just in case, I wanted to send you off with some reminders of just how great this year was (and how much you really did learn).

I do NOT want you to spend every day of your summer vacation studying math (no matter how much you really want to), but it would be nice if you could review a little each week to keep things fresh in your mind.  If you have a long car, plane or train ride or if you got grounded and you’re stuck in your room for a week – these would be good opportunities to review this material.

On a more serious note, it is expected that when you come back in September you have a decent grasp on all of the concepts we worked on this year.  In addition to this year’s material, many of you still need to study (a lot) your basic math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication & division).  You should know at least through the 12 tables by heart – no calculator!  You should also be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide fractions & decimals with and without a calculator.

I have included a general overview of all material we worked on this year (by CMP book) on this sheet. The 8th grade curriculum is based on the GLEs (grade level expectations) set up the state department of education and they focus heavily on algebra skills (used in algebra, probability, proportions, etc) so I would make sure you definitely review that material.  More detailed notes are on the other links so you can access them if you need to.

Some web resources that may help you with these skills are listed below.  I have not been to all of them, but they have been recommended by other math teachers in the building.  If you happen to find one that is particularly good, or bad, let me know so I can share with my department.
