Mrs. Gage - Alan Shawn Feinstein Middle School of Coventry
Welcome to Team 6A - Math!
What to expect in Mrs. Gage's math class:
Be Prepared!
Students should come to class prepared each day with pencils, their homework, a 3-ring binder with white lined paper, and their agenda! The 3-ring binder should consist of 5 dividers that are labeled: Notes, Class work/H.W., POWs, Tests/Quizzes, and Journal Entries.
Absences and Make Up Work
If a student is absent, it is his or her responsibility to find out what work needs to be made up and what notes need to be copied. For each day absent, students have that many days to make up the homework, test, or quizzes missed. A zero is received for any work not made up. It is strongly recommended that students come in for extra help if they have been absent for an extended period due to illness. I am available in my classroom every morning during homeroom and from 2:30-3:30 on Thursdays for additional math support.
Student Agendas
Student should write their assignments in their agenda every night! Even if there is no homework, the agenda should state, 'none'. This is the #1 way to stay on top of your child’s assignments. Homework assignments vary from class to class and nightly tasks will not be posted on the website. Homework can and will change daily depending on how much we accomplish in a given class period. One major learning process for a middle school student is organization and individual responsibility. The agenda helps with both!! Parents, please check your child's agenda frequently! If you notice it is not being filled out address this with your child - Chances are they are not completing their assignments if they are not writing them down. You can also communicate with me via your child's agenda if you do not have access to email.
Helping Your Child
You can do a great deal to help your child succeed in mathematics. Here are some strategies that can be used through the year with many of the mathematics units.
* Encourage your child to do his or her homework. Provide a regular place and time to do homework. Homework is graded on completeness, not accuracy, making it extremely important that every problem is attempted!
* Have your child show you his or her math binder and explain to you what he or she has been doing in class.
* Help your child be more organized. Sort through their math binder and check their agenda frequently.
* Have your child explain key terms from the current math unit..
* Encourage your child by explaining that you believe that he or she will succeed through persistence.
* Feel free to contact me via email with any questions, comments, or concerns!
