Trimester 3

·       Trimester 3 will begin with an in-depth study of Ancient Egypt.

·        Readings from Ancient World, Chapter 3 pp. 60-93.

·       Students will be expected to create their Study Stack of vocabulary words for Egypt. (Should be completed for a Test Grade by April 26, 2010)

·       Projects – Travel Brochure of the Nile (Test grade)Due 4/12

·       Writing Project – Hittite Spy Journal  (MultipleTest grades) Due 4/26

·       Unit Test  - 4/29 and 4/30 (Written responses and Vocabulary components = 6 test grades; 2 per SS strand)

We will be finishing 7th Grade with the study of Ancient China.

·       Focus on how the physical geography of China helped shape the government and culture of its people over the its’ 7,000 year history.

·       Study of the early powerful emperors and khans

·       How the Silk Road connected China to the West

·       Students will create an extensive Study Stack of Ancient China

·       Readings in Ancient World text – pp. 122 – 151

·       UNIT TEST – JUNE (date TBA)

About Mr. Blanchette

I have been a Social Studies teacher for 15 years, after 20 years in the private sector in sales/marketing management with Sears, advertising & public relations. I have a BA in Journalism (Univ. of Rhode Island), secondary teaching certificate (Univ. of Rhode Island), MA in History-Secondary Education (Univ. of Rhode Island).

·     Coventry resident over 30 years

·     Adjunct professor of geography at Providence College (9 years)

·     Certified baseball and soccer coach; former MS baseball coach and varsity soccer coach

·      Expert/lecturer on Early American and R.I. bottles and glass

·      Travelled extensively (U.S. and Canada, Italy)

·      Member Battery B- R.I. Light Artillery, Civil War Historical re-enactor

·      Married 34 years; my wife Lynn is the director of the Coventry Public Library

·      2 sons, one finishing his PhD at Univ. of Southern California, the other a BFA form URI and an actor at the Gamm Theater.
